What are the causes and effects of unemployment

What are the circumstances and end results of joblessness Unemploymentâ occurs when an individual is capable and ready to work however at present without work. The commonness of joblessness is typically estimated utilizing the joblessness rate, which is characterized as the level of those in the work forceâ who are jobless. The joblessness rate is likewise utilized inâ economicâ studies and economicâ indicesâ such as the United States Conference Boards Index of Leading Indicatorsâ as a proportion of the state ofâ macroeconomics. The reasons for joblessness are disputed. Keynesian economicsâ emphasizes joblessness coming about because of lacking powerful demandâ for merchandise and ventures in the economy (repetitive joblessness). Others point to auxiliary issues and wasteful aspects characteristic in labor markets;â structural unemploymentâ involves befuddles among request and gracefully of workers with the fundamental range of abilities, here and there actuated by technologies or globalisation. Classical orneo old style economicsâ tends to dismiss these clarifications, and concentrates more on rigidities forced on the work showcase all things considered, for example, unionization, the lowest pay permitted by law laws, charges, and different guidelines that may dishearten the employing of laborers (traditional joblessness). However others consider joblessness to be to a great extent because of willful decisions by the jobless and the time it takes to get another line of work (frictional unem ployment). Behavioral economicsâ highlights marvels such asâ sticky wagesâ andâ efficiency wagesâ which may prompt joblessness. There is additionally contradiction on how precisely to quantify joblessness. Various nations experience various degrees of joblessness; customarily, the United Statesâ tends to encounter lower joblessness levels than nations in the European Union,[2]â although there is some variety there, with nations like the UK and Denmark outperforming Italy and Franceâ and it additionally changes after some time (for example the Great Depression) throughoutâ economic cycles. Sorts of joblessness Economistsâ distinguish between variousâ types of joblessness, includingâ cyclical unemployment,â frictional unemployment,â structural unemploymentâ andâ classical joblessness. Some extra sorts of joblessness that are once in a while referenced are occasional joblessness, no-nonsense joblessness, and concealed joblessness. Certifiable joblessness may join various sorts. The greatness of each of these is hard to gauge, mostly on the grounds that they cover. In spite of the fact that there have been a few definitions ofâ voluntaryâ andâ involuntaryâ unemployment in the financial aspects writing, a straightforward differentiation is frequently applied. Deliberate joblessness is credited to the people choices, though automatic joblessness exists as a result of the financial condition (counting the market structure, government mediation, and the degree of total interest) wherein people work. In these terms, much or most ofâ frictional unemploymentâ is intentional, since it reflects singular inquiry conduct. Then again, recurrent joblessness, basic joblessness, and traditional joblessness are to a great extent automatic in nature. Be that as it may, the presence of auxiliary joblessness may reflect decisions made by the jobless before, while old style (common) joblessness may result from the authoritative and monetary decisions made by trade guilds as well as ideological groups. So practically speaking, the qualification among willful and automatic joblessness is difficult to draw. The most clear instances of automatic joblessness are those where there are less occupation opening than jobless laborers in any event, when wages are permitted to modify, so that regardless of whether all opportunities were to be filled, there would be jobless specialists. This is the situation of patterned joblessness, for which macroeconomic powers lead to microeconomic joblessness. Frictional joblessness Frictional unemploymentâ is the timeframe between employments when a specialist moves starting with one occupation then onto the next. Frictional joblessness is a case of a gainful piece of theâ economy, expanding both the laborers long termâ welfareâ andâ economic productivity, and is additionally a sort ofâ voluntary joblessness. Frictional joblessness is consistently present in an economy, so the degree of automatic joblessness is appropriately the joblessness rate short the pace of frictional joblessness, which implies that increments or diminishes in joblessness are typically under-spoke to in the basic insights. Old style joblessness Traditional or genuine pay joblessness happens when genuine wages for a vocation are set over the market-clearing level, causing the quantity of employment searchers to surpass the quantity of opportunities. Libertarian financial specialists like F.A. Hayekâ argued that joblessness expands the more the legislature intercedes into the economy to attempt to improve the states of those with employments. For example,â minimum wageâ laws raise the expense of workers with scarcely any abilities to over the market balance, bringing about individuals who wish to work at the going rate yet can't as compensation implemented is more prominent than their incentive as laborers turning out to be unemployed. They accepted that laws limiting cutbacks made organizations less inclined to employ in any case, as recruiting turns out to be increasingly unsafe, leaving numerous youngsters jobless and unfit to look for some kind of employment. A few, such as Murray Rothbard,â suggest that even social restrictions can keep compensation from tumbling to the market clearing level. A few business analysts estimate that this kind of joblessness can be diminished by expanding the adaptability of wages (e.g., annulling least wages or representative assurance), to make the work advertise progressively like a budgetary market Repetitive or Keynesian joblessness Repetitive or Keynesian unemployment, otherwise called insufficient interest joblessness, happens when there isn't sufficient total interest in the economy. It gets its name since it fluctuates with theâ business cycle, however it can likewise be determined, as during the Great Depressionâ of the 1930s. Recurrent joblessness is brought about by aâ business cycleâ recession, and wages not tumbling to meet the harmony level. Patterned joblessness ascends during monetary downturns and falls when the economy improves. Keynesians contend that this kind of joblessness exists because of deficient effectiveâ aggregate request. Interest for most merchandise and enterprises falls, less creation is required and subsequently less specialists are required, compensation don't tumble to meet the balance level, and mass joblessness results. Some consider this sort of joblessness one kind of frictional joblessness in which components causing the grinding are in part brought about by some recurrent factors. For instance, an unexpected lessening in the cash gracefully may stun members in the public eye. With recurrent joblessness, the quantity of jobless laborers surpasses the quantity of occupation opportunities, so that if even all open employments were filled, a few specialists would stay jobless. This sort of joblessness concurs with unused modern limit (jobless capital goods). Keynesian economists consider it to be potentially being explained by governmentâ deficit spending or by expansionaryâ monetary strategy, which plans to increment non-legislative spending by loweringâ interest rates. In contrast, Austrian economistsâ argue that administration spending and strategies are the main driver of monetary cycles and repetitive joblessness and ought to be improved or expelled. Old style economicsâ rejects the origination of repetitive joblessness, seeing the fulfillment of full work of assets and likely yield as the typical situation. Basic joblessness Basic unemploymentâ occurs when a work showcase can't give employments to each and every individual who needs one on the grounds that there is a jumble between the abilities of the jobless specialists and the aptitudes required for the accessible jobs.[10] Basic joblessness is difficult to isolate experimentally from frictional joblessness, but to state that it keeps going longer. Likewise with frictional joblessness, basic interest side boost won't work to handily nullify this sort of joblessness. Basic joblessness may likewise be urged to ascend by tenacious recurrent joblessness: if an economy experiences dependable low total interest, it implies that a considerable lot of the jobless become demoralized, while their aptitudes (includingâ job-searchingâ skills) become corroded and old. Issues with obligation may lead toâ homelessnessâ and a fall into the endless loop ofâ poverty. This implies they may not fit the activity opportunities that are made when the economy recoups. A few financial specialists consider this to be as happening under British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcherâ during the 1970s and 1980s. The suggestion is that sustainedâ highâ demand mayâ lowerâ structural joblessness. This hypothesis of steadiness in auxiliary joblessness has been alluded to for instance ofâ path dependenceâ or hysteresis. Muchâ technological unemploymentâ (e.g. because of the substitution of laborers by machines) may be considered auxiliary joblessness. Then again, innovative joblessness may allude to the manner by which consistent increments in labor profitability imply that less specialists are expected to create a similar degree of yield each year. The way that total interest can be raised to manage this issue proposes that this issue is rather one of repeating joblessness. As demonstrated by Okuns Law, the interest side must develop adequately rapidly to retain the developing work power as well as the laborers made repetitive by expanded work efficiency. Else, we see aâ jobless recoveryâ such as those found in the United States in both the mid 1990s and the mid 2000s. Occasional joblessness might be viewed as a sort of basic joblessness, since it is a kind of joblessness that is connected to specific sorts ofâ jo

Animal Farm Essay Topics

Animal Farm Essay TopicsAnimal Farm is an excellent choice for college essay topics. A college essay is one of the most difficult parts of any course, but the student usually is asked to tackle it in a writing style that is unfamiliar. What is an animal's life like?George Orwell, the author of 1984, created a character in his book that is not only fascinating but interesting for the student to read about. That character is 'Aryabhata,' and there are many such characters in Animal Farm, each with its own personality and style. The lessons that the character teaches are timeless, and many of them still apply to today's world. Animal Farm can help the student develop an interest in political events, as well as in world history. One of the best and easiest Animal Farm essay topics to choose for any student is the topic of animal abuse. While there are other issues that fall under this category, the Animal Farm essay topic may be more applicable to the reader, if the subject is not handled properly. A school requires students to write an essay about something that they are passionate about, and animal abuse would be a great subject for a college essay. Because animal abuse is generally not serious, many schools will allow students to give a very detailed account of what occurred. This allows the student to include anecdotes and details that the student may have forgotten otherwise.Another great Animal Farm essay topics is the theme of animal cruelty. Cruelty of any kind can be an extremely serious problem, especially with people who have previously been raised to believe that animals are somehow inferior to humans. Many people today are aware of some of the horrors of the treatment of animals, and this is one area that could prove interesting to the student. This theme could prove very relevant to the student in his or her future life.An important part of many Animal Farm essay topicsis the theme of freedom. Many people today are uneasy about the notion of freedom, a nd animal rights are a cause of controversy. For those interested in animal rights, this might be a topic of discussion in their future life. The student must be aware of this issue and take a stand in order to protect animals and freedom itself. When the student states his or her position, the professor can ask the student to explain how the opinions he or she holds will affect the student in the future. The final Animal Farm essay topics would be the theme of liberty. The students should decide, as a group, which topic is most important for them. When the group reaches a consensus, the professor can then incorporate a variety of topics, some of which are more specific to the student's studies.Animal Farm essay topics are widely available on the Internet, but many will insist that their essays are more comprehensive than that. They may be right, but the benefit of using these topics for a college essay is that a student can write about an issue in his or her own way.

A Comparative Analysis of Shamanistic healers in Celtic...

Many different forms of medicine are currently practiced in the world. In fact, as our text states, â€Å"in all cultures, some people have become recognized as having special abilities to treat and diagnose health problems.† (Miller 107) Without argument, phytomedicinal and supernatural healers are two forms of medical treatment that have been around for longer than any other, regardless of culture. It has been estimated that shamanism has been practiced for over ten thousand years (Tyson 3). Native American and Celtic healers are often known as shamans. Shamanism has always been an interest of mine, mainly in the Native American and Celtic Irish forms of medicine. Native Americans as well as Celtics have always held a certain mystique that†¦show more content†¦For the purpose of this paper, we will examine the similarities and differences between Irish Celtic and Native American shamans and their position in their respective cultures. For the Native American shaman the world of animals, the world of plants, the world of minerals, and the world of humans are all intertwined (Wolfe 3). Shamans in the Native American culture are viewed as a revered member of society, are often male, and are the sole healers of their people. While anyone can become a shaman in the Native American culture, the attainment of the status is an arduous process, and is considered a feat of great courage. The introduction of self to the spiritual world in such an intimate way has been considered dangerous because of the risk of insanity, as well as the risk of possession by angry spirits (Wolfe 237). From ancient times to modern times, shamans have been considered to be the link between the physical world and the spiritual world. (Wolfe 3). The Native American shamans utilize many sacred objects in their workings, which are considered sacred solely because they come from nature. These include talismans, spirit animals, totem helpers, ritual items, and spirit helpers (Wolfe, 9). Tobacco and other herbs, cornmeal, small shells, stones, and totems are important elements to their healing practices (Wolfe 20). Regardless of the methods that the shamans may use in healing, many Native American shamans believe that no one person heals

The most absurd case, is that young people are prohibited from buying alcohol or marrying, but can enter the operating room only with the consent of parents who usually grant them the operation by graduation (17 years). It is quite possible that television, movies or advertising, where the human body is idealized, exerts a great power of seduction in adolescents considering that at that age physical appearance is of great importance. The problem is that they do not have in mind the danger of an operation in a body that has not yet finished development. Adolescents who have not yet reached maturity undergo radical physical change operations which can be counterproductive. We cannot try to solve a problem of insecurity and low self-esteem with surgery since its origin goes beyond the physical aspect. Self-esteem is the appreciation or consideration that a person has for himself. The word expresses love and acceptance of one s own body and is built from the earliest childhood under the affectionate gaze of parents who proudly look upon the development of psychic abilities and the physical growth of their children. The Horse and his Rider Essay Example For Students

The Horse and his Rider Essay Additionally, the curling smoke could indicate that it is autumn or winter and is most probably early morning as the hot breath of the horse mixes with the cold air. Flinty pebbles (l. 5) and clouds of sand (l. 12) suggest that the horse is probably on a beach. Baillie is Scottish and glaring south (l. 9) indicates that the ensuing battle is going to take place either across the border in England or possibly in France. Alternatively, this poem could refer to a medieval scene with a Knight and his steed about to go off on the crusades. We will write a custom essay on The Horse and his Rider specifically for you for only $16.38 $13.9/page Order now After fourteen lines of admiration for the horse comes the turn in the poem and the mood changes from praise and adulation of the horse to praise and adulation of the rider. After But lo! (l. 15) comes the caesura and a complete change of tone and mood. What creature, asks the poet, is good enough to sit on such a magnificent beast as this horse? Eight lines later Baillie tells her reader, in a awed and admiring tone, that a British soldier, armed for war (l. 22) is that person. Described as godly (l.15) the reader can picture this mortal, dressed in armour and appearing a much larger than life figure. Portly stature (l. 17) could indicate that this man is not used to war and fighting and would be more at home going about his everyday tasks. But he is an Englishman and willing to fight for his country so he adopts a determined mien (l. 17). His dark eye (l. 18) indicates his anger and concern and his brow serene (l. 18) suggests his calm determination. Clearly this man understands the risks and futility involved in war and battle as he forward looks unmoved to the fields of death (l.19). This is also a compassionate man who, despite knowing what lies ahead, feels kindness and pity for his horse as he gently strokes (l. 20) the beast. Smiling and gently (l. 20) enhance the flowing movement of stroking the horse. There is a distinct change of mood in this final octave. Prior to this there is a real feeling of anger and excitement of what lies ahead and this also adds to the pomp and ceremony of battle. The horse, being just an animal, is not capable of seeing the dangers that lie ahead; whereas the man, a British soldier (l.22), whilst being proud and courageous like the horse, is also aware of the dangers and horror that the battlefield contains. Baillie manages to create a picture full of life, action, sound and expectation relating to the horse but subtly changes the feel and tempo of these final eight lines to give a more restrained impression of pride and acceptance when talking about the man. Throughout the poem Baillies shares her experience and feelings of the sight she has witnessed by building up a rhythmic pattern of rhyme and imagery to recreate the scene for the reader of her words. There are different levels at which this poem can be read and enjoyed and these are all interwoven. Literally the words tell a basic story a horse and rider are preparing to go to war. Ethically the poem looks at the moral issues of war and death. Historically it hints at the underlying political influences of fighting for ones King and Country. On an apocalyptical level it suggests the spiritual aspects of death. Steven Bygrave states that Romantic texts are more than usually highly politically charged (Bygrave, 1998, p. 14) and this poem is a good example of this and gives an idea of Baillies views. .u0fc86eba62b2f2ddfbf4936986d70f8e , .u0fc86eba62b2f2ddfbf4936986d70f8e .postImageUrl , .u0fc86eba62b2f2ddfbf4936986d70f8e .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .u0fc86eba62b2f2ddfbf4936986d70f8e , .u0fc86eba62b2f2ddfbf4936986d70f8e:hover , .u0fc86eba62b2f2ddfbf4936986d70f8e:visited , .u0fc86eba62b2f2ddfbf4936986d70f8e:active { border:0!important; } .u0fc86eba62b2f2ddfbf4936986d70f8e .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .u0fc86eba62b2f2ddfbf4936986d70f8e { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .u0fc86eba62b2f2ddfbf4936986d70f8e:active , .u0fc86eba62b2f2ddfbf4936986d70f8e:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .u0fc86eba62b2f2ddfbf4936986d70f8e .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .u0fc86eba62b2f2ddfbf4936986d70f8e .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .u0fc86eba62b2f2ddfbf4936986d70f8e .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .u0fc86eba62b2f2ddfbf4936986d70f8e .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .u0fc86eba62b2f2ddfbf4936986d70f8e:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .u0fc86eba62b2f2ddfbf4936986d70f8e .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .u0fc86eba62b2f2ddfbf4936986d70f8e .u0fc86eba62b2f2ddfbf4936986d70f8e-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .u0fc86eba62b2f2ddfbf4936986d70f8e:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: The poet dreams EssayThat she admires both the horse and the rider is evident but whether she supports or condemns war is not clear. Compare and Contrast the Pharisees and Sadducees Essay Example

Compare and Contrast the Pharisees and Sadducees Essay Example Compare and Contrast the Pharisees and Sadducees Paper Compare and Contrast the Pharisees and Sadducees Paper All religions over the ages have been comprised of subgroups maintaining differing beliefs, apparently these contrasting beliefs becoming more aggressive as time progresses. From church splits to outright sects, religious groups all seem to be subject to this division of beliefs, Judaism being no exception. Within Judaism over the centuries many differing beliefs have formed, discredited and accepted. This essay will compare and contrast two particular groups in the context of first century Palestine, the Pharisees and the Sadducees. The Pharisees and Sadducees in some ways can be likened to the political left / right model used in modern politics. The Pharisees being the left wing liberals, the blue collar working class citizens, among which resided some of the finest educated leaders in Judaism, whose chief occupation was teaching and leading in the context of the synagogue. The Sadducees on the other hand could be considered the right wing conservatives, the aristocratic and wealthy, made up of priests and merchants, who followed the letter of the law in its most literal interpretation, leaving no room for the current societal application of the law as did the Pharisees. There are three main sources which account for the majority of information we have about the two groups, those sources being from Josephus, a secular historian writing about 70C. E. to 100C. E. Commissioned by the Romans, his purpose being to convince the Romans that the Pharisees should have rule over the Jews. The second of the sources are the rabbinic writings, which for the most part succeed Josephus writing, and speak more of the internal affairs of Judaism. The third and final source is most obviously the New Testament from the Bible, particularly in the Gospels and Acts of the Apostles where the Pharisees and Sadducees are frequently mentioned, often conflicting with each other and Jesus. The word Pharisee derives from the Hebrew word perusim which translated means separated ones, implying the righteous and holy attitudes encompassed by their belief. The meaning of the word Sadducee is less clear, but it is commonly thought that they were named after the Priest Zadok, in the time of King David and King Solomon whom which Ezekiel declares the only true priest at the time. (Huie, B. 1997) The Pharisees were originally politically involved around 60B. C. E. but later relinquished this involvement and focused on the religious aspects of their existence. They are perhaps most well known for their zealous ambition for the Mosaic Law, and their understanding of, and abidance by it. Commonly in religious circles today, the word Pharisee is understood to mean religious hypocrite and often considered synonymous with hypocrisy. This view is perhaps misleading and not at all how they were seen and understood in first century Palestine. For most first century Palestinians, the Pharisees were seen as the most righteous and holy members of Judaism, sporting an extensive knowledge and understanding of the Torah, or Mosaic Law. They were concerned primarily with the promotion of the most holy conditions following the letter of the law to such an extent that the laws of temple worship were extended into everyday living and the home. The Pharisees, although not a large group, of around 6000 according to Josephus, were incredibly influential and well respected in Jewish circles. The Pharisees enjoyed an unequal share of the power in terms of leadership and were concerned with teaching and leading Jews in the synagogue setting. Although the Sadducees were predominantly the high priests in the temple, they, by fear of civil unrest, conformed to the customs of the Pharisees particularly in relation to ritual cleansing and purity. A defining characteristic of the Pharisees is their acceptance of and adherence to the Mishnah or the Oral Torah, an interpretive tradition passed down through generations, which was essentially an understanding of the application of the Torah in varying situations pertinent to the current direction of their society. This acceptance of the Oral Torah or Oral Law, is justified by a somewhat illusive verse in Moses writing stating put it in their mouths in regard to the law. (Johnson, P. 1988) Other particularly Pharisaic characteristics include the belief in the immortality of the soul, that the soul does not die with the body, but transcends life. This belief was recorded by Josephus in The antiquities of the Jews where he writes that souls have immortal vigor. Associated with this belief is the belief in resurrection, in angels and demons. The Pharisees avoided the widespread Greco-Roman Hellenisation around them, actively attempting to retain their own culture and customs, particularly in regards to deities and their worship. The place of Pharisees decreased rapidly after the fall of the temple, and the role of the Pharisees was transferred into that of the Rabbis in the synagogue. The Sadducees compare and contrast in various ways to that of the Pharisees. The two groups are often seen as polar, at opposite ends of the political spectrum, as mentioned earlier, in some cases this view is justified. The Sadducees, similarly, were Jews, the priestly line of Jews, often regarded as elitist and superior to other groups. They were politically inclined and actively sought to rule the Jews. The Sadducees occupied a majority of seats in the Sanhedrin, the highest court of the day, which was downgraded by Herod the Great to a religious court. The Sadducees also practiced religious piety, being solidly devoted to the Torah and its value. For the Sadducees, the written laws of Moses were the be all and end all, and the Mishnah had no place in their beliefs. They were much more legalistic than the Pharisees, and interpreted the Torah literally. Due to political pressures from the Jews, the Sadducees conformed to the customs and ways of the Pharisees, particularly in temple worship, to avoid disquiet. Another notable difference between the two groups is the Sadducees rejection of the notion of immortality of the soul, instead following the teaching of a Greek philosopher Epicurus. This Hellenistic view, of the soul dying with the body, is a classic example of the influence of the Greco-Roman culture to Judaism. Along with this view, all notions of the existence of angels and demons, and resurrection are deemed fictional. This view led to their condemnation by Jesus Christ late in his ministry, condemning their misunderstanding and lack of wisdom in regard to scripture. The Sadducees were a much smaller group and were never really accepted into mainstream Judaism, and were commonly considered a sect. With the destruction of the Temple in around 70C. E. the Sadducees practically vanished as their place of power, in the Temple, no longer existed and thus their place in society was no longer needed. While Pharisees and Sadducees share many common aspects of Judaism, there are a few defining characteristics held by each group which set them apart from the other. The primary differences between the two groups are the adherence to the Oral Torah, the belief in the immortality of the soul, and thus resurrection. Similarly the groups share a desire for control and ruler ship of the Judaic religion, spawning from a particularly strong devotion to following the Mosaic Laws. References: Cohen, Shaye J. Articles - Essay Example The penalties also apply to cases of full time employees only. Amount of cover may also vary across industries and penalties for non-compliance are lower than coverage costs. The policy therefore has strength of establishing minimum requirements for employer coverage but it lacks strong mechanisms for enforcement. It is however likely to promote employer coverage because of the legal environment and employers’ need for a positive image (Wojcik, 2013). The authors define managed care as a set of initiatives for organizing, managing, implementing, and evaluating care that targets a specific group. The care approach eliminates duplication of care initiatives and reduces cost of care. In addition, managed care focuses needs to ensure delivery of appropriate services at the right time. Changes in the legal and technological environment has however complicated the scope of care and led to development of managed care model. The model identifies possible interactions between factors to care provision and advocates for management so that all factors to care support each other. In addition, the model focuses on the patient and incorporates all stakeholders and environmental factors, and their potential influences on care delivery. The managed care and the model have the strength of focusing on the patients for efficient and effective care but face the challenge of complexity because of the numerous involved factors. It however offers an op portunity for improved care (Linsley and Morton,

Chemical Engineering design of a operation unit Essay - 1

Chemical Engineering design of a operation unit - Essay Example In chemical engineering, unit operation is the basic step in any separation process. Unit operation involves initiation of physical changes such as evaporation, crystallization, filtration, and separation among other physical processes. This paper involves a design of one operation unit for CO2 adsorption from flue gas of power plant. The adsorption process would make use of activated carbon, a source mainly from fuel substances in the mining industry, and it will be based on physical adsorption mechanism. Physical adsorption involves electrostatic attractive interaction of opposite charges and the idea of weak Van der Waals forces. It is chosen over chemisorption process because it uses lower enthalpy of adsorption, which is between 8-20 kJ mol-1 against 40-800 kJ mol-1 for chemisorptions. While activation energy in chemisorptions is small, it is zero for the physical process. Another factor considered is the low temperature of occurrence in physical adsorption, which depends on boiling point. Physical adsorption also allows the application of more than one layer that is adsorbed while chemisorption allows the chance of only one layer. Flue gas can be obtained from the combustion of a petroleum fuel such kerosene. The capture of carbon dioxide from power stations has increasingly become a key issue in research. CO2 separation is a benefit to the chemical industry, where CO2 is used for many purposes such as the production of methanol, urea, metal bicarbonates and carbonates. The concern on the production of CO2 is enhanced by the issue of global warming. Various capture approaches are typically applicable (Hicks et al. 2008). These approaches include membranes, cryogenic, absorption, and adsorption among other approaches. In this paper, adsorption process is used as the preferred approach in the gas separation process. Adsorption process of carbon dioxide gas

Ethan from - Realism Essay Example for Free

Ethan from Realism Essay The rise of Realism in 1855 was the time when farming began to industrialize, communication expanded through railroads, and Nationalism was yet again revived. On top of all these important transformations that have marked this period of time was the significance for literature with a new audience, new settings, and new characters. The novel, Ethan Frome, by Edith Wharton, is a magnificent example of literature from the Realistic period. First, Realism is a definite movement away from the Romantic period. Romantics wrote regarding the unique and the unusual, whereas in Realism, literature was written about the average and ordinary. The town where the novel takes place is Starkfield, an average farming community. There is not much in the town that is of interest or anything extravagant to be known for. In addition, literature from Romanticism focused on hopes, while Realistic literature illustrated skepticism and doubt. The narrator describes the scene where Zeena declares to Ethan that her sickness is getting serious, saying, She continued to gaze at him through the twilight with a mien of wan authority, as of one consciously singled out for a great fate. Ive got complications, she said (108 Wharton). Hope for Zeenas health is nonexistent, and she, being a hypochondriac, confirms the fact that she feels doubtful about life. The Romantics wrote about the unusual and hopeful, which are characteristics that are not strongly represented in Realistic literature. The second aspect of Realism is the idea of Regionalism. One indication of Regionalism in literature is the characters dialect. An excellent depiction of dialect is where Harmon Gow says, Wust kind, . . . Moren enough to kill most men (6). His regional accent is shown by the spelling and punctuation, allowing the reader to have an idea of how Harmon would have said it. Another aspect of Regionalism is the customs and the way of life of the characters. One way of life that the characters are accustomed to is the normality of marriage between cousins. As this practice is not enthusiastically accepted everywhere, it brings the Regionalistic aspect to the novel. Regionalism, which includes the characteristics of dialect and customs, is a critical component of Realism. Third, Realistic literature uses the concept of Naturalism. In Ethan Frome, the bleak winter setting is a primary clue that nature plays a key role in the story. Nature is displayed as a powerful and malevolent force that is indifferent to humankind. In the novel, the narrator once stated, But when winter shut down on Starkfield, and the village lay under a sheet of snow perpetually renewed from the pale skies, I began to see what life thereor rather its negationmust have been . . . (7). This statement depicts the winter seasons in Starkfield as gloomy and undesirable weather. Aside from the setting, the basic animal nature of humans also draws out the Naturalistic traits in Realism. The narrator tells what was going through Ethans mind following the smash-up, . . . and far off, up the hill, he heard the sorrel whinny, and thought: `I ought to be getting him his feed. . . (172). At such an intense moment, Ethans animal nature brings him to think about tending to his hungry horse instead of caring about his and Matties teetering lives. These examples signify the sense of nature and its forces used in the literature of Realists. Edith Whartons novel, Ethan Frome, is a wonderful example of Realistic literature. Its style shows signs of a distinct shift away from Romanticism and illustrates the aspects of Regionalism and Naturalism, two major components of Realism. Authors of the Realistic period depicted life as typical, everyday people lived and knew it to be, using these important points. The ordinary characters that dealt with common problems and situations in the literature brought a new group of readers, establishing a unique new era that has changed the way people perceive life forever.

What is Business Studies? Essay -- Business

What is Business Studies? Business studies is the study of how businesses are set up, financed, organised and controlled, how people are employed, managed and paid, how goods are developed, produced and sold, how goods and services are priced and how the local, national and international government help or hinder businesses. In studying the setting up of a business there are many aspects that need to be considered. Such as the type of business ownerships which are suitable for the entrepreneur, where the capital will be coming from, what goods or services could be considered to sell and where the business should be located. The extensive amount of research, which is carried out before the business operates, is also studied. There are many sources of finance open to the entrepreneur, which also need to be studied in depth. The business owner has to set the right price for its goods or services - a price which is of convenience to the consumer and which is affordable for the owner. This is possible by using break-even analysis, and again market research. Owners ... What is Business Studies? Essay -- Business What is Business Studies? Cultural Difference: Hofstede Framework

Culture, in my own opinion, is a unique system of values and norms that are believed by a group of people who live in the same society. Since culture is unique, Geert Hofstede tried to study the differences. After the study, he proposed five dimensions to measure the cultural difference between nations. The following parts will explain Hofstede Framework briefly. The first dimension is Power Distance. It is a tool to measure the power difference between levels in organization. In a group with high power distance, the majority of people would tend to respect in authority and establish hierarchy. When observing their behavior, they would have a great esteem on the class of social level. By contrary, a society with a low power distance would not fear authority and view themselves as equal with equal rights. Generally, the power distance in Oriental is higher than that in Occidental. The second dimension is Individualism vs. Collectivism. This index measures the preference of a group of p eople in considering self-benefit or group-benefit. In a society of collectivism, the society would have strong group cohesion and have higher responsibility on others well-being.Besides, the management level would tend to discuss with their subordinates before making a decision. By contrary, people will have loose ties and lack of interpersonal connection when a society prefers individualism. Generally, the Oriental prefer to focus on collectivism; the Occidental prefer to focus on the individualism. The third dimension is Achievement vs. Nurturing. This index reflects a society that sticks with and values traditional male and female roles. If the score is high, the society tends to holes value like traditionally male which is competitive, assertive and ambitious. They would be less emotional and would not make any emotional-based decision or argument. On the other hand, a nurturing-oriented society will respect and admired powerful women and they would tend to emphasizing considera tion and personal feelings. Next dimension is Uncertainty Avoidance. The score reflects the attitude of the group when it faced risk and ambiguity. If the score of uncertainty avoidance is high, the management of the group would prefer to set more rules to avoid the uncertainty situation during the daily operation. By contrary, society with low score has higher illingness in accepting risk and changes. Also, the management of the group would impose less rules and structure when unnecessary. The last one is Long-term vs. Short-term Orientation. It measures the group of people prefer to consider the short-term-benefit or the long-term-benefit. If the group prefers short-term-benefit means the management may seek for the quick success and the instant benefits. They would consider personal stability and respect fro tradition. By contrary, the group prefers long-term-benefit means they concern the future, advocate saving and reserve. They believe that progressive effect is more important. With the Hofstede framework, we can separate and understand the difference of managing culture through these five dimensions. On the other hand, when we talk abou Culture†, somebody would say that â€Å"Culture is something easy to build up, but hard to break†. However, in my opinion, this is not a one-sided statement. We would not state that culture is either easy or difficult to build up or break down, as we could adopt a new cultural environment or re-build a culture in a micro-environment by nderstanding the cultural norms and behavior of that society. For example, to change the beliefs and values in an organization, we should adopt different approaches based on the culture in that nation. I would explain my contention using the Hofstede's framework in the following parts. The first angle is Power Distance. The majority of people would obey their boss if the index is high. By contrary, they would view themselves as equal with equal rights. For this, there are two dif ferent reactions when they meet the change of culture, included buildup and break down. From the angle of higher-index nation, they will accept the changes always; most likely they will not refuse the changes, include the break down. So, management can change the culture easily in this situation. However, in the low-index nation, it will not only hard to build up, but also hard to break down the culture as they emphasize to view themselves as equal with equal, especially to rebuild. Therefore, management should follow these three advices when they change to culture. Firstly, form a discuss group and invite staff to show their views and concern before decision making.Secondly, try to use more statistics to seek their support within the discussion. The most important is the management must keep the eyes on the behaviors and emotion of the staff the change started. If the negative reaction was found, the management should stop the change and review. If the management follows it, it is e asy to change the culture. The second angle is Individualism vs. Collectivism. As the said before, the society would have strong group concept if there is Collectivism. On the other hand, they would emphasize the self-benefit when they prefer Individualism. For this, the main focus should be â€Å"Benefit†, there are two different reactions when they meet the change of culture. In the Individualism society, â€Å"Self-Benefit† is their main focus. If changing the culture will bring the â€Å"Self-Benefit†, they will support the change. Then, Culture is something easy to build up and break down. However, if changing the culture will cut the â€Å"Self- Benefit† down, they will against the change. Then, Culture is something hard to build up and break down. By contrary, in the Collectivism society, â€Å"Group-Benefit† is their main focus. If changing the culture will advantage to â€Å"Group-Benefit†, they will support the change. So, Culture is something easy to build up and break down in this moment. However, if changing the culture is disadvantage to â€Å"Group-Benefit†, they will against the change. Then, Culture is something hard to build up and break down in this moment. As a role of management, we should try to guide them to focus the viewpoint to positive. For example, when we would like to change the culture of late, some supporter of the Individualism may think it is damage to their â€Å"Self-Benefit†.But e should change their mind-set to it is benefit for them, it is a chance for strive to the promotion. For the support of Collectivism, we also can try a similar approach. For example, when we would like to change the culture of talking gossip, some supporter of the Collectivism may think it is damage to their â€Å"Group-Benefit†. We should change their mind-set to it is advantage to tor them; it will be increase to productivity atter stop to talking. All of them can get the team bonus if the productivity increases. Try to divert their attention and get their support, then the change of culture will easier. If we can not divert their attention, the management should stop the change and review it immediately. The next angle is Achievement vs. Nurturing. If the score is high, the group of people will more competitive, assertive and ambitious. However, they would tend to emphasizing consideration and personal feelings if the score is low. In this situation, they will only support the change if it is fit with their character and oppose it if it can not. After we got their support, we can change the culture easily. But, it is hard to change the culture if we only got their objection. In the Achievement society, we should avoid discussing emotions or making emotionally-based decisions or arguments. By contrary, Ensure Job design and practices are not discriminatory to either gender. And treat men and women equally. By doing so, we will build up or break down easily. When we go the wrong way, then we will hard to build up and break down. The fourth angle is Uncertainty Avoidance. The group would prefer to set more rules if the score of uncertainty avoidance is high. If the score of uncertainty avoidance is low, they have higher willingness in accepting risk.If the score of uncertainty avoidance is low, that means they love to support the change of culture, it is easy to rebuild and break down the culture. On the other hand, they are not the fans of the change if the score of uncertainty avoidance is high, because they have not confidence for the future. For this, we should give more plans and preparation to the staff, communicate with them often and early, provide detailed plans of change. Through the guide line, we can lead the people to rebuild or break the culture step-by-step. After that, they will support the change as they got he confidence. The last angle is Long-term vs. Short-term Orientation. If the group prefers short- term-benefit means the m anagement may seek for the quick success and the instant benefits. By contrary, the group prefers long-term-benefit means they believe that progressive effect is more important. In Long-term society, we should avoid letting them lose the face, emphasize and benefit of future, then they will support. Otherwise they will oppose the change. By contrary, in Short-term society, we should emphasize the quick benefit, then they will support. Otherwise they will oppose the change.
